Geoffrey Shea in conversation with the Owen Sound Sun Times

Geoffrey Shea - Speech

"One of Shea’s installations, Speech (I Want To Know), is based on his three years experience as a West Grey councillor. He said it reflects the strange role that language plays in the public arena. In the installation Shea is seen silently mouthing a campaign speech in slow motion while a record of some of the motions and bylaws that he was part of scroll by in a blurry context while an original musical soundtrack addresses the tension between reality and appearance.

“In politics speech is the tool of the trade but the less you say the better,” said Shea
